Typically, the Baring Vostok funds will own a controlling stake in companies in which they invest either alone or with like-minded co-investors.In certain cases, the funds will invest through a significant minority stake. The quality of the business and alignment of interest with partners is more important for the trends than the size of the stake.
While each fund’s portfolio contains an adequate degree of diversification, the core industry sectors in the past have included oil & gas, media, telecommunications, financial services, and retail or consumer-related sectors.
During its operation in Russia and the CIS, Baring Vostok's funds have been invested in a broad range of companies within these industries including formerly state-owned privatized companies, new entrepreneurial ventures and co-investment opportunities with major international or Russian strategic partners.
